Athletic Coordination Camp

Time:9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Location:Rotary Challenger Park

The Athletic Coordination Camp will focus on improving fine and gross motor coordination and team building skills. Campers will participate in activities such as soccer, baseball, track and field, strength training, arts & crafts, swimming and many other activities to increase their knowledge of individual and team sports and to increase muscle tone and self confidence. The LDAA-CC’s Athletic Coordination Camp features a 4:1 camper to counsellor ratio.

Location: Rotary Challenger Park, 3688 48 Avenue NE *For participants coming from South Calgary, daily bussing will be available from Southcentre Mall*

Requirements:

  • Suspected or diagnosed learning disability, AD/HD, NVLD, DCD, Asperger's Syndrome
  • A suitability interview for acceptance into the program
  • A current membership at the LDAA-CC

Goals of Athletic Coordination Camp ‘Moving with Purpose’:

  • Campers will have fun participating in physical activities.
  • Campers will increase their knowledge of body movements and kinetics of motion.
  • Campers will develop leadership skills though physical and sport activities.
  • Campers will understand their physical abilities and have increased confidence.
  • Campers will have knowledge of individual and team sports available to them. They will have participated in new activities.
  • Campers will have increased sportsmanship.
  • Campers will increase fine motor coordination through arts and crafts and other activities.
  • Campers will develop and practice social skills while performing motor skills.

Professional Support
We are fortunate to have Dr. Paulene Kamps involved with the camp as a consultant and instructor. Dr. Kamps is a Registered Psychologist, registered teacher and has a PhD in educational psychology (community rehabilitation) with a focus in motor learning and how motor learning affects other learning. She will instruct the campers directly on motion and movement and will teach the staff how to reinforce and incorporate the skills into daily activity.
